Purification Scientist/Technician (Oligonucleotides)

  • Challenge: use your expertise in analytical chemistry to help purify and characterise a range of chemically modified oligonucleotides

  • Required: Experience in analytical chemistry, including HPLC and LC-MS

  • Location: London, UK

  • Start-date: ASAP

  • Length: Full-time/Permanent.

The Opportunity

At Sixfold we engineer our proprietary MergoTM systems to ensure therapeutics hit their target. We see the huge potential of RNA therapies being limited by how safely and effectively they can be delivered in people.

As a Purification Technician, you'll be at the center of all our manufacturing efforts. You’ll be applying your knowledge of analytical chemistry to purify the oligonucleotides (RNA and DNA) that form the basis of our MergoTM  systems, and ensuring they can be tested preclinically. Given the importance of our work, your research will have a huge global impact.

This is an extremely exciting opportunity to join us as we enter a promising phase of development and innovation. You’ll join a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary and dynamic team environment: a passionate team of chemists, biochemists and biologists looking to make a difference (and have fun doing it!).  You’ll be exposed to advanced technical and scientific skills that are in high demand in the rapidly growing field of RNA therapies.

What You’ll Do
  • Utilisation of relevant analytical instruments for method development; primarily analytical HPLC and LC-MS.

  • Process development to enable the isolation of compounds of interest from crude mixtures.

  • Preparation of post-purification samples and analysis using relevant techniques, such as PAGE, HPLC and MS.

  • Collection and analysis of analytical data in order to characterize the compound of interest.

  • Document purification conditions and method development used to isolate compounds and provide this information to your line manager.

  • Operation and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment in accordance with appropriate internal SOPs and maintenance procedures.

  • Maintenance of the essential instrumentation as appropriate.

  • Following all safety protocols and standard operating requirements

Who you are

You’ll need experience in purification of organic molecules and appropriate techniques for downstream characterisation. You’ll be a highly motivated and independent individual who is also comfortable working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Specifically, you should be someone who:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 1+ year of experience in analytical chemistry or any similar scientific discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience with different analytical and preparative techniques, including method development (HPLC, MS, LC-MS).

  • Ability to analyse chromatographic data.

  • Basic preparative instrumentation knowledge including simple maintenance and repair.

  • Ability to multitask across purification and analysis.

  • Ability to manage the workflow within the group.

  • Strong desire to learn with multifunctional learning agility.

Our team is what makes Sixfold. We look for people with:

  • Good humour, friendly and plenty of energy

  • A passion for science and learning

  • Team oriented

  • The ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload

Not required, but helpful

  • Experience with oligonucleotides.

  • Share Scheme

  • Pension and Paid holidays

  • Flexible hours

  • Highly collaborative and inclusive team environment

  • The chance to see your ideas make an impact

  • Bi-/Weekly team events

Diversity and Inclusion

It’s important to mention that although disease affects us all, our industry still displays a huge lack of diversity — this needs to change. Our team is composed of many different nationalities, cultures and genders. Our goal is to create a company culture that promotes ideas and the inclusion of team members from all backgrounds.

That means we have no judgement when it comes to any one of the things that make you who you are — your gender, race, sexuality, religion or your secret aversion to cucumber water.

We actively encourage members of disadvantaged, minority and underrepresented groups to apply.
